Combine the herbs and vegetable oil in a crock pot. Turn the crock pot to its lowest setting, cover, and allow to heat gently two to four .hours, checking and stirring frequently to prevent burning. When the oil is yellow in color and has an "herby" smell, it's done. Strain through a coffee filter or piece of clean cloth into a large measuring cup. This oil is now an infused herbal oil. To each cup of infused oil (you'll lose some in the straining process), add \ cup of the beeswax. Heat the oil and beeswax together over very low heat until the beeswax is completely melted.

He had his patients use the strained solution at room temperature, 2-3 drops three times daily from a sterile eye dropper. The yellow color of the root is due to the alkaloid, berberine. The Indian Journal of Ophthalmology for March 1983 reported that the berberine found in goldenseal root is excellent for treating inflammations of the cornea and iris brought on by the herpes simplex virus. A solution similar to the one previously mentioned can be made for these problems, except that 1/4 tsp. of goldenseal root would be used with the other two herbs. The same directions would be followed.

The early nineteenth-century Eclectic physicians in the United States (who used herbs as their main medicine) not only employed eucalyptus (p. 421) oil to sterilize instruments and wounds but recommended a steam inhalation of the vapor of the oil to help treat asthma (p. 15), bronchitis, whooping cough, and emphysema.7 Thyme (p. 464) has a long history of use in Europe for the treatment of dry, spasmodic coughs as well as bronchitis.8 Its antispasmodic actions have made it a common traditional recommendation for whooping cough.
