In addition to medicinal plants there are many more that are used as such, by themselves, in various forms such as herbal teas or alcohol extracts and tinctures. A further seven hundred species or so worldwide is a sober estimate, and this is without taking into account traditional home remedies.
European folk medicine currently uses some two hundred species of native medicinal plants to treat a wide range of common diseases. Many are obtained by collecting in the wild, a lesser number are grown on small plots. |
| The first group includes synthetic medicines, the second most drugs from medicinal plants and naturally also preparations from these drugs such as herbal teas, infusions, tinctures and extracts. The objective person must acknowledge that we need both groups of medicines.
Synthetic medicines enable the physician to give rapid and effective treatment in acute cases. Natural medicines, on the other hand, if administered correctly, generally have a mild action and the effect usually occurs after a lengthier period. |

Of course, all the naturally good-tasting herbal teas, glycerites, and tinctures like Lemon Balm, Mint, Chamomile, and Fennel are also garnished with fun when transformed into a phytojel.
Adults (senior kids) can take a bit of dessert before meals as a digestive aid, using an herb jello incorporating Peppermint, Chamomile, Lemon Balm, Ginger, or any of the other carminatives. Merely the name "Lemon Balm-lemon-lime jello" shimmies with vibrations of gastric approval and up-liftment. |

Elecampane also has antispasmodic properties, stimulates the flow of bile and has a beneficial effect on the digestion, facts well known in folk medicine. One teaspoon of the crushed drug is boiled briefly in one cup water and the decoction is then sipped slowly ?three cups daily. Lungwort is an ingredient of numerous herbal teas used for treating chest complaints. The current demand for the drug is relatively small and for the time being collection in the wild is sufficient. The leaves and stems must be spread out and dried rapidly, as if they are dried slowly and layered they readily turn brown and become less potent. When dried excessively the drug is crumbly. A word of warning ?Lungwort easily becomes mouldy.
Common Lungwort (1) is a perennial herb of meadowland, damp woods and humusy soils in lowland as well as foothill districts. |

On a juice fast, a person abstains from solid foods and drinks juice, water, and herbal teas throughout the day. "We should be drinking every half hour to an hour," advises Lombardi. Lombardi recommends a combination of the following:

All herbal teas can contain caffeine, so it's important to read the labels. Celestial Seasonings Morning Thunder, for instance, the flavor of which is derived from mate (a South American plant with leaves rich in caffeine) and other tea leaves, contains 35 mg of caffeine. So Irene began drinking a few cups of raspberry leaf tea when she next became pregnant. Everything went beautifully, even though 10 years had passed since the birth of our first son. The following year, Irene had another very easy and successful pregnancy. Now, besides George, we have Thomas, who is 27, and Janet, 26."

| You may want to try herbal teas to help ease the pain, especially at bedtime. A cup of strong camomile tea alone will help. For something that herbal literature indicates is somewhat more powerful, try making a tea consisting of two parts camomile, one part skullcap (the powdered herb) and one part lady's slipper (the roughly ground root). If taken at bedtime, you may also want to add some hops and passionflower.

Herbal tea can be taken medicinally and also as a beverage. herbal teas taken medicinally can have the strongest effects and are, therefore, appropriate for the most serious illnesses. To be this effective, however, the proportion of herbs to water is much greater than generally realized. Rather than the typical 1/4 oz of herbs to 1 cup of water as in a beverage tea, the medicinal dosage is 1 oz of dried herbs to 1 pint of water (or 1/2 oz herbs to 1 cup of water). Anywhere from 2 to 3 oz of herbs should be used if they are fresh.
Teas are made from fresh or dried herbs, either cut or whole. |

Nutritional Guidelines for Young Children
During this critical period of life, your child's brain is continuing to gain weight through dendrite and axon growth. The myelin sheath is being laid into place around the dendrites, forming a fatty-acid conduit for the transmission of nerve signals. Neurotransmitters and neurohormones are being formed to transmit messages. Children's brains are extremely active because they are constantly learning. The materials for each of these brain constituents come from the diet. |
