V-oxides are much more water-soluble than the parent PAs and are better extracted from plant material during the preparation of herbal teas.
Because PAs are often the toxic but not the biologically active principles of many herbal medicines, methods have been developed to eliminate PAs from crude plant extracts. Removal of PAs is accomplished by treating alcoholic plant extracts with cation-exchange resins.
Medicinal plants that contain only nontoxic saturated PAs are Arnica montana and Echinacea species. |

Chamomile is one of the most widely used ingredients in herbal teas worldwide. The amount of chamomile imported into the U.S. each year is between 750,000 and one million pounds, with an estimated 90% used in teas (Keating, 2001). In the U.S. and Europe, chamomile is also a popular ingredient for external use in health and beauty aids. In commerce, chamomile is often called German chamomile or Hungarian chamomile, which should not be confused with the rarer, and more costly, Roman or English chamomile (Anthemis nobilis syn. Chamaemelum nobile). |

Keeping heat-extracted herbal teas for longer than 24 hours is not advisable, because spore-forming species are not effectively eliminated by boiling water.45 This is even more essential when an herbal tea has been prepared by cold infusion, as cold water has no decontaminating effect. When there are phytochemical considerations or other reasons to choose cold over hot extraction, each dose should be freshly prepared at the time of use. As a rule of thumb, cold infusions that are more than four hours old should be discarded. |

Wales has a strong modern herbal tradition with clearly recognizable roots in the flowering of Welsh culture in the days of the old Princes of Wales (c. 1100). In rural areas are many people who know one or two herbal combinations specific for certain conditions. Often encountered are various ointments for eczema. |

Then you have a couple more drinks to banish the depression and you're in a vicious cycle. Like most things, alcohol in small amounts can be beneficial and in large amounts detrimental. |

| Water or herbal teas should be consumed throughout the day. Foods containing potentially damaging fats such as fast foods, lunch meats, chips, burgers, hot dogs, and ice cream should also be avoided, as they are all congesting and more acid-forming. BROAD-SPECTRUM ANTIMICROBIAL AGENTS
Many plants used for their antimicrobial activity contain either polyphenolics or tannins, which have antiviral properties, or essential oils, many of which are antiseptic. Plain vegetable broth and herbal teas can be used on "liquid" days. If you have hypoglycemia, always use a quality protein supplement when fasting. Spirulina is a good choice. It keeps blood-sugar levels from dropping too quickly, helps to get rid of hunger pangs and supplies chlorophyll—it is good even when you're not fasting. Fiber and spirulina should not be taken at the same time as or with other supplements.

DEMULCENTS AND EMOLLIENTS
Many herbal teas, made particularly from flowers and leaves, are used to obtain symptomatic relief from colds and influenza. Some are diaphoretic (induce sweating), some are anti-inflammatory and analgesic, others are mucilagenous and soothing, and many have some antiviral activity due to the polyphenolic constituents. They are used as a general supportive measure and are usually pleasant to take. |

In addition, vitamin C supplementation helps during withdrawal by supporting the adrenal glands. |
