AIDS
The problem with AIDS is that virtually anyone, no matter what is his/her status, can become infected with this frequently fatal infestation. Thus, an infected individual may, if injured, liberate the germ in secretions or blood, and whoever comes in contact may become infected. This is how most health workers contract the disease. However, this mode of transmission is comparatively rare. |

Nausea
This is one of the most uncomfortable of all conditions. It is caused by inflammation in the gut, although head injuries also lead to nausea. The inflammation may be due to infection, stress, chemical poisoning, alcohol toxicity, drug reactions, pesticide/herbicide intoxication, or allergic reactions. Nausea of pregnancy is another consideration. In fact, nausea is one of the earliest symptoms of pregnancy. It is also the primary symptom of motion sickness. |

Saute in a large sauce pan, the onion, carrot, celery and garlic until tender, about 10 minutes. Bring the stock to a boil in the pan. Rinse the lentils and add to boiling stock. Add all the remaining ingredients except the vinegar. Reduce the heat, cover and simmer, until the lentils are very soft, about 1 hour. Remove the soup from heat and add the vinegar. Discard bay leaf. (If you want a creamer soup, puree half the soup. Return the puree back to the saucepan and reheat.) Or you can place all ingredients in a crock, (minus 1 cup fluid) in the morning and set on low for 9 to 10 hours. |

AVOIDING TROUBLE
1. Watch your portion sizes (except vegetables, where you should feel free to exceed recommendations if that's what you need to fill you up). During the first week on the diet, make sure that you are paying attention to the size of the protein servings. Do not overeat. This is very important: Your appetite for protein will be much greater now than it was during the fall and winter.

Puncture wounds
This is one of the most treacherous of all illnesses, largely because the wound is difficult to access. In other words, it is difficult to completely cleanse the wound(s) of germs that may cause serious infection.
Puncture wounds are notoriously associated with a condition commonly known as "lock jaw", for which we now receive tetanus shots. |
